In early 2000 the Board of Supervisors approved $615,000 for planning, designing and building a community garden at Sweetwater Regional Park. The Construction contract was awarded with the goal to open the garden in 2018.

The mission was to provide 150 to 200 plots of rentable garden plots for public use. The location selected was the 500-acre Sweetwater Regional Park, The garden sits on 5 acres.
This community garden was the 4th county park with a community garden.
