With Insite Property Group building their Secure Self Storage (1,332 storage spaces in a 3-story structure), looks like we could soon have our own Saturday night entertainment right here in Bonita! Bring your neighbors, your kids, your grannies, your trucks, your chairs, your BBQ and snacks over to Quarry Road and we'll have a tailgate in the SSS parking lot. Maybe some undesirables will show up to rob the place!
Saturday night—one week ago—some thieves decided to rob the StorQuest Self Storage in La Mesa. I bet they realize now that maybe they should have rethought that idea.
When the police pull up with their lights on and tell you to come out with nothing in your hands, it's wise to do so. These crooks ignored the order so the K-9 Team was sent in. Warning! The K-9s will find you every time! There's no hiding a human scent from the sensitive nose of a German Shepherd!
1904 News wrote and video-taped "La Mesa Storage Heist Interrupted by K-9":
"On July 19 at approximately 10:09 PM, at StorQuest Self Storage located at 8265 Commercial Street in La Mesa, a storage unit was broken into, prompting a police response.
It was reported that two trucks had already left the scene when these suspects re-entered the building.
According to La Mesa Sergeant Jensen, one male suspect surrendered inside and was taken into custody without incident. A female suspect was also located inside the facility and sustained injuries after being bitten by a K-9 officer. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers recovered stolen property from the trunk of a silver sedan, as well as from a cart found on-site. La Mesa Police Department is actively investigating the incident."
PHOTOS: First they search the car in the parking lot and the dog is all over the scent and raring to go find the bad guys. The male suspect walks out and then the female suspect limps out. The fireman asks her "Did you hurt your leg?" That's the best line in the video! The last photo is them loading her into the ambulance. | Stills from the video by 1904 News | Click on images to enlarge
Are you old enough to remember the ads from the 1980's featuring McGruff the Crime Dog? He was created by an advertising agency known as Dancer Fitzgerald Sample (DFS) after the Department of Justice approached the Ad Council "to create a public campaign to engage the public in reducing crime."

McGruff's tagline was "Take a Bite Out of Crime." This K-9 officer must have really looked up to McGruff because that's exactly what he did.
