Mystery Lights Over Brown Field Spark UFO Speculation

Videos showing several bright lights descending through the night sky over the Brown Field area just before 10 p.m. Tuesday are quickly going viral online, with viewers divided over what exactly they witnessed.

Reports poured in from across the South Bay, with residents in Chula Vista, Otay Mesa, Imperial Beach, and surrounding communities reporting they could see the unusual lights from miles away.

Some social media users immediately speculated the lights were UFOs or extraterrestrial activity, while others suggested a far more earthly explanation: a military-style HALO jump.

One follower who contacted 619 News Media believes the lights were likely parachutists conducting a HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) jump, a technique commonly used by military special operations units. During a HALO jump, personnel exit an aircraft at extremely high altitudes and freefall for an extended period before deploying their parachutes at a much lower altitude. During nighttime operations, jumpers often use illuminated equipment that can create a striking visual display for observers on the ground.

The lights appeared as multiple bright objects slowly descending in formation, leading many online viewers to question whether they were skydivers, meteorites, military exercises, or something more mysterious.

While meteor sightings do occur in Southern California, meteors typically streak rapidly across the sky and burn out within seconds. The objects seen Tuesday night appeared to descend in a more controlled manner, leading some observers to believe they were more likely parachutists than meteorites.

As of Tuesday night, no official information had been released explaining the lights.
