Thank you to all of you who got up early yesterday and starting driving at 7:30AM to arrive at the Board of Supervisors' meeting to speak against the proposed Secure Self-Storage.
Thank you to those who called in by phone to speak at the meeting.
Thank you to all those who walked petitions or signed petitions against the project.
It was all over before it started. The decision apparently had been decided before we even walked into the chambers.
We were without representation as we currently have had no Supervisor in District 1 since January.
Supervisor Jim Desmond—notably the only honest and decent member of the Board—was in Washington DC tackling the Tijuana Sewage / Pacific Pollution issue.

We had walked into a den of snakes.
They put the Secure Self-Storage project last on the agenda. We sat through two-and-a-half hours before Agenda item #4 was addressed. Remember, our journey began at 7:30AM.
But that two-and-a-half hours was the best schooling about the Board of Supervisors a person could get. The majority of individuals who spoke in person or by phone on the preceding issues had not one pleasant word to say about the Board, or at least the three people present yesterday. They were called out by name for mass corruption they had allegedly committed.
Eye opening to say the least.
Our item began at about 11:30AM.
Michael Garrod, Felix Felix and John Taylor—all Sweetwater Community Planning Group Board Members—presented an excellent defense.
It was followed by a very disingenuous presentation by suits from InSite. They stated over and over how the entire community loved and supported the project. As we all know, this is a bold faced lie.
Over thirty people went up before the dais to talk. Once the number exceeds ten, your talking time is reduced from three minutes to one minute. And after identifying yourself, you are left with approximately 45-50 seconds to get your message out.
About twenty-five people spoke against the project. All valid arguments falling on deaf ears.
Four planning groups in the area wrote letters against the project. A Spring Valley Planning Group member spoke against it in person.
Five members of the Workers Union showed up to talk in favor of the project because it provided them plenty of work. Hmmm, sounds suspicious that they would just show up. Tim Karp, InSite West Coast Development Manager, was very resourceful in his devious plot to get this project approved.
The InSite attorney held up a 2" thick book reporting that these were all residents in favor of the project. (After the meeting, I asked her if I could look at it. She said she had given it to a co-worker. I asked where she got the names and she replied from online media sources. I asked how I could get a copy and she asked for my email. We'll see what happens with that.)
We were fighting Goliath and the three attending County Supervisors yesterday were stealing our stones.
Secure Safe Storage was much bigger than we could have imagined. Here are their current locations:

Not much Board discussion took place before Supervisor Joel Anderson made a motion to approve the storage location and Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe seconded it. It was unanimously approved by Anderson, Lawson-Remer and Steppe. Remember these names.
Many present said that they felt the Storage company had paid for the votes of the people shown above. There was so much information provided against the Storage facility and the vote was quick.
The Secure Self Storage was approved to be built on Quarry Road, a rural-residential street across from four single-resident homes. The storage building is bigger than any Costco you've ever been in.
The flood gates have been opened.
