Maintenance Work Done on Proctor Valley Road Bridge as DPW Projects Get Started

Immediately after the Board of Supervisors approved their County maintenance projects on June 10th, County workers were spotted on Proctor Valley Road approximately two weeks later.

It was a big group, maybe ten, all wearing hard hats and safety vests. Still wet behind the ears. As there was no one behind me, I rolled down my window and inquired what they were working on. The answer? "Nothing." Well that doesn't explain anything.

On my way back, I noticed that they had already left so I wouldn't be in their way. I parked my car and went for a hike.

A few days earlier, they had blocked the road and were digging in the river bed with an excavator. I wondered what I might find.

Well the kid was right. Nothing. The riverbed was full of water so whatever they had been doing was beneath the water level. Maybe clearing the passageway under the bridge?

If you look carefully at the first photo above, the posts for the elevated barrier do not go into the riverbed. They have been attached to the existing posts. So they weren't digging new post holes.

There were new steel plates in the middle of the road. I played "Frogger" with the traffic to get to the other side of the road.

No apparent changes to the west side of the road were noticed.

Here's the finished project.

An slightly elevated barrier on the east side of the road for a span as wide as the riverbed.

The last photo shows a wonky barrier moving away from Proctor Valley Road in an easterly direction all the way up to the neighbor's driveway, actually impeding their driveway to a small degree.

A lot of hullabaloo with unimpressive results. These are your tax dollars at work.
