A lot of people are not speaking kindly of Supervisor Nora Vargas these days. Her critics are saying that she has not shown any interest in returning their phone calls or emails or helping them with their problems for the past 3-1/2 years that she has been in office. Now that she is coming up on an election against a very strong and likable candidate for District 1 Supervisor, Ms. Vargas is talking about what she WILL do after re-elected. A little too late?
Yesterday, Voice of San Diego writer Jim Hinch wrote that Imperial Beach Democrats had rescinded their endorsement of Supervisor Vargas.
"South County politics watchers have talked quietly for weeks about a behind-the-scenes feud between Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre and San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Nora Vargas.
Earlier this month, the feud burst into the open when the Imperial Beach Democratic Club—helmed by none other than Aguirre—took the extraordinary step of rescinding its endorsement of Vargas in her re-election race against Republican Alejandro Galicia."
It's an interesting story and you'll want to read "Feud Between Mayor and Supervisor Heats Up."
Who is Alejandro Galicia? Alejandro Galicia is a man that listens. He is running for Supervisor of District 1 and people are paying attention.

Alejandro Galicia, Candidate for Supervisor, District 1
“I’m running because I’ve seen a disturbing trend of community leaders not fulfilling their duty regarding routine and emergency county services. Instead, they focus on political pet projects to reward their donors and to pander for re-election. I’m the best candidate because of my background and diverse experience.” —Alejandro Galicia, Q&A with San Diego Union-Tribune

Sounds like a "Regular Joe" to me. And a regular Joe who listens to and communicates with the people he represents is a win for District 1.
