Supervisor Candidates Differ on Tapping into County Reserves, Money Used for Emergencies

Supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer and Monica Montgomery Steppe want to tap into the County's Emergency Fund, approximately $355 million, and spend the money that is reserved for unexpected events.
The fund has $1.3 billion in reserves, with $945 million already spoken for. This leaves a cushion of $355 million for any uprising predicaments.
Supervisors Jim Desmond and Joel Anderson are opposed to using up the emergency funds and believe the funds should be left in place in case a crisis should occur.
Lawson-Remer and Steppe are democrats while Desmond and Anderson are republicans. The Board of Supervisors is split, 2-2.
The County deficit occurred when Lawson-Remer, Steppe and ex-Supervisor Nora Vargas voted to make San Diego County a super-sanctuary county. The federal government pulled their funds.

The Supervisor Run-off Election taking place from June 20 - July 1 will decide which way the Board of Supervisors will tip. Candidate Paloma Aguirre is a democrat and candidate John McCann is a republican. Aguirre supports raiding the cookie jar and McCann opposes the idea.
In the April election, John McCann received 42.38% of the vote, needing 50% or more to be declared the new Supervisor of District 1. Paloma Aguirre received 32.33% of the vote. The run off election will take place from June 20 - July 1.
Out of 373,641 registered voters, only 66,626 showed up to vote or mail in their ballot. That's a pathetic 17.8% of the voting population!
The issues presented to the Board of Supervisors and how they vote directly affects you, your family and your quality of life. Your vote may likely determine which direction the pendulum swings.
