Last Wednesday—January 7th—they broke ground on the Secure Space Self Storage facility. I'm not sure if they actually broke ground or they just got stuck in the clay.

They were out there clearing trees and breaking cement and the ground was pretty sticky. You can see the large slabs of cement that they had smashed. The blue stakes at the front of the property (pics 2 & 3) indicate where the 42" existing water pipe lays. It must be protected at all costs because that would be a heck of a leak.
I warned them about the rattlesnakes that like to hide by that riverbed beneath the trees. I was told they had already encountered two in two days time. There are more where those came from . . . it's going to be an adventurous build to say the least!

They removed all the trees and mulched them. I love the little extinguisher sitting there, like that will put out a fire! Sometimes these machines will throw sparks and start fires but you usually need a hose on hand with a good sprayer wetting the soil the entire time. Luckily the ground's plenty wet with all the rain we've had and the fuel to burn is limited.

Lots of big equipment to play with and open land to move it around! I love that they got the large Takeuchi with the thumb on the bucket to pick up piles of debris. They have a lot of toys to play with but they'll probably just be busy with work. Do these photos remind anyone else of a Monster Truck Mud Bog Event?
The image below outlines their "To Do" list:

In case you've forgotten, this is what is being constructed. It is reported to be about the size of a Costco building (147,000 square feet (SF) or two football fields).
Details for the storage facility may be found at County Planning Commission to Review Quarry Road Secure Space Self Storage Facility. The plot plans are also included in the above article.
