Finally . . . 2,669 precincts have fully reported so all the precincts have been counted 100%. The November 5th Presidential General Election resulted in a 75.8% voter turnout. Here are the official results that Bonita-Sunnyside voters have been waiting for.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) serves Bonita, California, along with much of Chula Vista, parts of San Diego, and a small portion of National City. You can read more about Sharmane Estolano (Seat 2) and Tanya Williams (Seat 4) in the Campaign 2024 category of Sunnyside Common Sense.

Bonita-Sunnyside falls under San Diego County District 1. This was an interesting race as most people believed that incumbent Nora Vargas ran unopposed.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, "In District 1, incumbent Nora Vargas spent more than $14,000 and raised $33,575 this period, mostly from the Democratic Party. Her Republican challenger, Alejandro Galicia, raised nothing." Alejandro Galicia ran without the benefit of campaign money yet racked up 37.54% of the vote. He's the horse you might want to be betting on in the next race.
San Diego County District 3 incumbent, Terra Lawson-Remer (D), was in a tight race with Kevin Faulconer (R), former Mayor of San Diego. Terra Lawson-Remer won with 56.98% of the vote. The interesting fact about Terra Lawson-Remer is that Voice of San Diego is hinting she wants Nora Vargas' position as Chairman. We'll be watching to see how that unfolds.

This competition had a lot of twists and turns and La Prensa and Voice of San Diego kept tabs on them all. Josie Calderon-Scott is the Sweetwater Authority Board incumbent. Elizabeth Cox comes from a politically savvy family and is the daughter of a former County Supervisor (Greg Cox) and a former Mayor of Chula Vista (Cheryl Cox). Elizabeth Cox was elected with 52.95% of the vote.

This race was especially fascinating to the Bonita-Sunnyside community. Two new candidates stepped up creating nine contenders for only eight seats. As the game of Musical Chairs progressed, SCPG Co-Chair Stephen Stonehouse was left without a seat as he only presented a 9.20% showing. New member Patty O'Mara topped the list with an amazing 15.27% and Felix M. Felix received an incredible 11.03% of the vote. Both finished in the top four positions. Welcome Patty and Felix!
