SDGE is Asking for a Rate Hike

Share Your Thoughts at a Public Participation Hearing—in Person or Virtually
This event is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts regarding this application to an Administrative Law Judge and/or Commissioner overseeing the hearing.
While a quorum of Commissioners may attend, no official action will be taken at these hearings. If you need language interpretation or other reasonable accommodations, please contact the Public Advisor’s Office at least five days in advance.

What is Being Requested?
SDG&E is requesting an increase in revenue of $280 million or 8.1% from 2027-2028 to: pay for wildfire mitigation, modernization of the natural gas system and electric grid, improvements in technology, improving customer experience, and address rising costs, like insurance. SDG&E is also seeking a formula to address inflation and additional capital investments that, if approved, will increase revenues for 2029-2031 by an additional 5.5-8.7% annually.
How Would This Impact the Average Residential Ratepayer?
If the requested amount is approved, the average electric residential customer using 400 kWh per month and the average gas residential customer using 24 therms per month would see a monthly rate increase of approximately $14.03 and $8.45, respectively. The actual impact will vary based on usage, baseline territory, and other factors.

Notice from SDG&E | October 27, 2026 | San Diego Gas & Electric
EDITOR'S NOTE: I recommend reading KPBS reporter Kevin Trevellyan's article on this topic.
"SDG&E presents 2028 rate increase proposal to energy stakeholders" states that SDG&E wants to collect about $3.8 billion from customers in 2028. About a fifth of SDG&E residential customers are at least a month behind in paying their bills.
