Loren Chow was stopped in traffic when he saw the semi-truck in his rearview mirror. “We’re going to get hit. There’s nothing I can do to get out of this,” he realized.

The collision killed his wife, Jenny, as they headed home from their son’s college visit. In the aftermath, Loren faced another horrifying discovery: That the truck driver had killed someone else less than a year earlier, and that the California Department of Motor Vehicles could have taken him off the road – but did not.

In a new short documentary, investigative reporters Robert Lewis and Lauren Hepler team up with Evident to investigate the deadly toll of the DMV’s hands-off approach to commercial truck drivers.
