San Diego’s State of the County Address is typically an ode to the county’s accomplishments on issues such as homelessness, housing and mental health. This year’s address by Board Chair Terra Lawson-Remer was more like a rally for MAGA resistance.

Our Lisa Halverstadt reported on the speech, held at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park.Lawson-Remer threw shade at oligarchs and billionaires, and called for the county to dig into its reserves to make up money lost to drastic federal spending cuts.
She wants to use more than $100 million in reserves to fund a new county public health lab and clean up sewage pollution in South Bay. Any chance at reserve spending will probably depend on the outcome of the District 1 Supervisor race, which will determine which party controls the board.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Please note that the County of San Diego banner states "THE NOBLEST MOTIVE IS THE PUBLIC GOOD".
This wasn't the case when Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer and her colleagues—Supervisors Anderson and Steppe—went against the wishes of the Bonita residents and supported the developer to put a commercial storage facility (larger than the biggest Costco) in a residential area on Quarry Road.
Remember these names and faces:
Ms. Lawson-Remer was the Supervisor who abstained from voting on Supervisor Jim Desmond's proposal to reverse San Diego County's Super-Sanctuary Status and killed the vote and buried it deep.
Because of this Super-Sanctuary Status (championed by our ex-Supervisor Nora Vargas), the feds have a spotlight on SD County and have removed our funding.
Just a few days ago, KUSI News reported that Ms.Lawson-Remer is proposing a $1 billion tax increase to preserve key programs she says are threatened by federal funding cuts. That funding deficit was primarily caused by Ms.Lawson-Remer's vote and that tax increase would be paid by us.
Don't forget that back in October 2022, Ms. Lawson-Remer was caught spending over $7500 in campaign funds from donors for her childcare costs. Voice of San Diego reported on that story, also.
"THE NOBLEST MOTIVE IS THE PUBLIC GOOD"? I don't think so. We need a change.
