Progress on Homelessness, Public Safety and Accountability

I wanted to share an important update from this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting — where we delivered real results for the people of San Diego County, especially here in North County.
Supporting Our Homeless Veterans
First and foremost, I’m proud to report that my legislation to expand emergency housing and critical services for homeless veterans passed unanimously. As a Navy veteran, this issue is deeply personal.

No one who wore the uniform of this country should be sleeping on the streets they fought to protect. These men and women risked everything for our freedom — and while we’ve made progress, it’s unacceptable that many are still without shelter or support. We owe them more than gratitude. We owe them action.
I won’t stop until every veteran in San Diego County has the care and dignity they’ve earned.
Saying No to More Bureaucracy on the Tijuana Sewage Crisis
At the same meeting, I voted no on yet another bureaucratic response to the Tijuana Sewage Crisis.
Instead of real solutions, the item proposed:
Creating a new “Sewage Crisis Chief”
Commissioning more economic and environmental studies
Conducting yet another public health impact report
Let’s be honest — we know what the problem is. Mexico continues to dump raw sewage and industrial waste into our country. What we need is accountability, not more titles, studies, or political theater.
San Diegans are tired of waiting. I will continue to push for action that stops this pollution and holds Mexico accountable. Enough is enough.

A Responsible, Balanced Budget for North County
I’m also proud to announce the passage of our new County budget — and it’s a big win for North County families, without raising taxes.
Here’s what we secured:
$14.3 million for a new firefighting and rescue helicopter
$3.5 million to expand fire/EMS coverage in Pauma Valley
450+ affordable housing units in progress
$24 million boost for mental health and substance use services
$71 million to repair and maintain 690 miles of North County roads
Major investments in parks, libraries, and senior support programs
And just as importantly — I fought to stop efforts to raid your tax dollars for reckless, unnecessary spending. Fiscal responsibility matters. We kept our budget balanced and your money protected.
North County deserves leadership that delivers — not just talk. Whether it’s helping veterans off the streets, fixing our roads, or stopping wasteful proposals, I’ll always stand up for the people who trust me to lead.
Thank you for that trust. I never take it for granted.
