Preventing Car Theft at Your Home

More and more people seem to be reporting car thefts on Bonita-Sunnyside neighborhood social media sites.

Vehicle thefts across San Diego County and California have seen general downward trends year-over-year, though suburban unincorporated areas like Bonita remain subject to transient or opportunistic auto thefts and multi-city vehicle pursuits passing through the Sweetwater/Chula Vista corridor.—You Tube

The City of San Diego recommends that you dial 911 if you actively see your car being driven away. Use non-emergency numbers if you walk out and notice it is already gone.

Write down your information so you will have it on hand if your car is stolen. Be sure you know your license plate number, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), make, model, color, and any unique distinguishing features (like stickers or custom wheels) available for the dispatcher. Write it down NOW and put it in a safe place in case you need it.

Law enforcement routinely advises residents to completely lock vehicle doors, close windows, and never leave spare keys, key fobs, or garage door openers inside unattended cars.—KTLA 5 News
