My Kids' Generation is Leaving . . .

There's a question I hear at almost every event now.

"Where are my kids supposed to live?"

Parents ask it. Grandparents ask it. Young people ask it about themselves. And most of the time the answer is somewhere else. Arizona. Texas. Idaho. Anywhere but here.

That's not because people want to leave San Diego. It's because Sacramento made it nearly impossible to build, then acted surprised when prices went through the roof.

On the Board of Supervisors, I didn't just talk about it. I pushed for a first-time homebuyer program. I fought for relief for seniors who want to sell the family home without getting crushed on capital gains. I opposed a new tax on selling your home. And I backed limits on big investors buying up single-family houses that should go to families.

I want to take that same approach to Congress. Build more. Tax less. Put families ahead of Wall Street.

Owning a home used to be the reward for working hard. It should be again.

When your ballot arrives, send it back early. Then tell somebody you know who's thinking about leaving that we're not giving up on this place.

Join me in fighting for common sense solutions that will truly make a difference for our families and communities.
