It’s Time for a Change. Property Taxes Need to be Processed More Quickly!

SD County Treasurer Candidate Shirley Nakawatase says settling check processing delays could result in millions of dollars of income that can be directed to more public services
Many local taxpayers observe the slow deposit process of their property tax payments as it’s been a systemic problem for years. It infuriates taxpayers and represents lost income opportunity for the County due to inefficiency.
According to Shirley Nakawatase, “In the age of electronic processing, this may not seem like a big deal but if you look closely at the numbers, it’s a bigger issue than you think. I plan to strengthen internal operations by bringing more money back to the County more quickly. But people need to vote for me for this to happen.”
Shirley’s straightforward example shows that the Treasurer’s department needs to focus on the 24 percent of property taxes that are being paid by checks, and not electronically.
Multiply 24 percent by $9.5 Billion (current reporting) and then multiply that by an investment rate of 3.85% for two months. You lose $14,600,000 of income simply due to deposit lag time.
“$14,600,000 is a lot of money that could be spent on County services such as public safety, public parks and overall program maintenance. This is just one of the inefficiencies that I can improve.”—CPA Shirley Nakawatase and San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector candidate
Voting for the right candidate, not party affiliation, is important for positions such as San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector. “Make your vote count for something, reduce wastefulness and hire a professional CPA,” adds Shirley.
“This is what I mean when I say the Treasurer-Tax Collector's office needs a financial professional, not a politician. The office manages billions of your dollars. It deserves someone who reads the ledgers, finds the leaks, and plugs them. I have spent four decades doing exactly this kind of work for my clients. Now it’s time that I helped county taxpayers."—CPA Shirley Nakawatase and San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector candidate
