Starting November 1, approximately 400,000 San Diegans will lose access to their CalFresh (SNAP) benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown. This comes in addition to roughly 100,000 active-duty service members and other federal workers who are either furloughed or working without pay — many of whom may be struggling to afford essentials like food and diapers.
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County, remains fully operational and committed to ensuring access to food during this time of uncertainty. I'm proud to have supported and pushed for the region's food banks that support struggling families. They are built for moments like this.
If you or someone you know relies on CalFresh benefits and will not receive them on November 1, please visit the Food Bank’s Food Locator Map to find a nearby food distribution.
The Food Bank’s CalFresh Outreach Team is also available to assist with new applications. While benefits are not currently being disbursed, the County of San Diego continues to accept applications, and funds will be deposited once the government reopens.
