Gun Safety Event on November 23rd

Jose Ortiz, Crime Prevention Specialist for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, reported that there will be a Gun Safety Event on November 23rd. The event will take place at the South Bay Courthouse, 500 Third Avenue in Chula Vista, from 9am to 2pm.

Turn in your unwanted guns and receive a gift card. They will pay you $100 for a handgun, rifle or shotgun and $200 for an assault weapon. No questions asked. The gun(s) must be in working order.

The procedure is to place the unloaded guy in the trunk of your vehicle and to follow all instructions given by the Deputy receiving the gun. All weapons collected will be destroyed.

Juan Ortiz stated that they are "trying to get guns out of the area."
