Free E-Bike Safety Webinar: What Every San Diego Family Should Know About E-Bikes

If you live anywhere in San Diego County, you’ve seen it.

Kids flying down streets. Wheelies in traffic.  Close calls that make your stomach drop.

E-bikes have taken off — and for a lot of families, they’ve made it easier for kids to get to school, to practice, to see friends.

That’s a good thing.

But the reality is, we haven’t caught up to how fast this is changing.

Across our region, doctors and trauma teams are seeing a rise in serious injuries among young riders. In some coastal areas, e-bike crashes are now one of the leading causes of trauma for youth under 18.

And there are two big reasons why:

  • Kids are riding in real traffic without the training that drivers are required to have

  • Some companies are selling high-powered electric motorcycles as “e-bikes,” even when they exceed what’s legal

For families — and really for anyone on the road — it can be hard to know what’s safe, what’s legal, and what needs to change.

That’s why we’re starting with information.

We’re hosting a free virtual webinar with medical experts from Scripps — the people seeing these injuries up close — to break down what’s happening and what we can do about it.

Date: Tuesday, May 12, 2026

Time: 6pm

Location: Virtual

In this session, you’ll hear:

  • What doctors are seeing right now in emergency rooms

  • The most common causes of serious e-bike injuries

  • What parents — and communities — should know about safety and risk

  • What needs to change to keep kids safe on our streets

E-bikes aren’t going away. So it’s on us to make sure our kids — and our communities — are ready for them.

I hope you’ll join us.
