San Miguel Road residents had a bit of excitement last night just after 1930 (07:30PM).

The silence of night was pierced by multiple sirens as fire and police vehicles arrived on the scene. Two large explosions were heard shortly after . . . possibly the tires exploding?
Kudos to our Bonita-Sunnyside Firefighters for arriving so quickly and putting the flames out .
Chula Vista Police, California Highway Patrol and possibly San Diego County Sheriffs were on the scene assisting.

The cause of the excitement was a car fire involving a Hyundai sedan.
The car was headed eastward on the 5900 block San Miguel Road. No other vehicle was involved and neighbors near the scene saw no driver exit the vehicle. Details are unknown at this time.

Residents reported a very active fire with flames rising above the trees. Many poured out of their homes to watch the event and chat with others about what they had witnessed.
Cars in the westbound lane were stopped as far back as Proctor Valley Road.
The air was rank with the pungent smell of burning rubber and plastic. Several chose to retreat back inside their homes to avoid the stench.

Water, water everywhere. The aftermath of the incident was an abundance of water that had been used to douse the flames and the burned-up carcass of what had once been someone's car.
It was fortunate that the driver had walked away and no homes were ignited. The damage had been minimal.

The Hyundai was towed away and the San Miguel Road neighborhood returned to normal.
