Are you paying attention Bonita-Sunnyside homeowners?
Back in October of 2025, I gave you a speedy rundown of the danger-at-hand. I wrote about San Diego County’s Goal for Unincorporated Areas is to Permit 6,700 Homes by 2029.
A quick history lesson on annexation, housing development and the construction of the SR 125 may be found on the Sweetwater Valley Civic Association history page.
Skip Ahead to Today
Things are speeding up and the County is barreling toward its final destination . . . increased development in Spring Valley and Sweetwater (Bonita-Sunnyside).
May 5, 2026—Chair cancels Sweetwater Community Planning Group meeting with no discussion or prior notice to Board. This would have been an excellent opportunity to share information about Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) mitigation and what it means for the Bonita-Sunnyside community.
May 21, 2026—Webinar from 5-6PM about Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) mitigation. This meeting will provide an opportunity to learn about the County’s approach to reducing VMT, supporting housing production, improving sustainability outcomes, and preparing for future land use planning efforts. Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions and hear about upcoming opportunities to participate as the County continues this work. Why so early in the day? Most residents will still be driving home from work at this hour. VIRTUAL MEETING
"Urban planners use VMT to forecast travel demand, evaluate the efficiency of transportation networks, and plan road infrastructure."—Google
June 10, 2026—County of San Diego Planning & Development Services (PDS) Board Hearing on VMT mitigation.
June 10, 2026—Webinar from 6-7PM about the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance. The program would require new market-rate housing developments to include affordable housing when they are built. Staff has prepared a package of policy options related to the core components of the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance that aligns with the Board's direction to prepare an ordinance that does not negatively impact housing production. See today's article "What's in the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance to be Presented to the Board of Supervisors?" on this subject. Register for Webinar.
June 24, 2026—Board of Supervisors meeting to vote on adoption of the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance
A total of four meetings in a month's time. The County is pushing ahead at a rapid rate. I wonder why the rush all of a sudden?
