County Department of Environmental Health & Quality Temporarily Closes Jalisco Cafe
The Jalisco Cafe—located at 4062 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA 91902—was ordered temporarily closed by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality on August 19, 2026.
According to county health inspection records, the restaurant faced a temporary enforcement shutdown due to a combination of health and sanitation violations.
Noted Violations
The major and minor infractions that triggered the department's enforcement action included:
Major violations: Proper cooling, food contact surfaces, sewage disposal, and vermin.
Minor violations: Proper hand washing facilities and holding temperatures.
Out of compliance: Ware washing facilities maintenance, equipment and utensil
storage/use, thermometers, premises/cleaning items/exclusion measures, and floors, walls, and ceilings.
Current Status
Per San Diego County health protocols, food facilities ordered closed due to imminent health hazards must remain shut until all major violations are corrected. Once a follow-up inspection proves compliance, the department issues written authorization allowing the business to safely re-open to the public.
Update
I swung by Jalisco's on Sunday to check the notice for the reopening date and they were already back in business. Loud music was playing as if to notify the public that they were alive and kicking. Customers were sparse.
It looked quite different from the last time I was there. Lots of fencing and it appears that they extended the sidewalks out to accommodate outside tables.
Jaliscos is in the commercial area owned by Chula Vista. So this would not be approved by our Sweetwater Community Planning Group (County).
