The Chula Vista Parks and Recreation Commission has their regular meeting this Thursday—March 19th—at 6:30PM at the Norman Park Senior Center Conference Room, 270 F Street, Chula Vista. You will find parking in the rear of the building.
This commission meets every other month and this is the month!
If you are available, you will want to attend this Thursday's meeting of the Chula Vista Parks and Recreation Commission. You may find the agenda for this meeting below.
Though there is no discussion on the horse arena listed on the agenda, Director Carson is speaking on the Budget Fiscal Year 2026/2027 (Item 5.3) and Status of Recreation Program Plan (Item 5.5).
Both of these items discuss recreation plans for the future. I think it is advisable to be at the meeting just in case Director Carson decides to slip something in during one of those items. The agenda is vague and there is always the possibility of the Rohr Park Horse Arena popping up. A room full of horse riders and concerned community will keep that in check. And we want to keep this topic front and center in the Commissioners' minds.
During Public Comments at the beginning of the meeting, the public may address the Commission on any subject matter within the Commission’s jurisdiction that is not listed as an item on the agenda. Letting the commissioners know that we are still concerned about the horse arena going AWOL on the Rohr Park Master Plan is a good idea.

At the last meeting on January 15th, Public Comments were received from Alisha Morrison, Michelle Harms, Walt Rose, Alisa van Ginkel, Darrell Jett, Donna Hodge, Susan Heavilin, Lucia, and Janeen Reed in support of keeping Rohr Park Horse Arena.
Community has been informed that this issue would probably not be decided for one year. That's a long period of time and important items have a way of being forgotten when not discussed frequently. An abundance of speakers making comments and adding time to their meeting might help them to consider making that decision earlier. Once the arena is back on the Master Plan, we can all relax a little. In the meantime, I recommend that we stay alert to agendas.
If you are unable to attend this meeting, the next best thing is to enter an e-comment about your concerns. Follow the directions below:
Electronic Public Comments: At www.chulavistaca.gov/boardmeetings, locate this meeting and click on the comment bubble icon. Select the item and click on "Leave Comment." The deadline to submit e-comments or any comments emailed to PRC@chulavistaca.gov will be noon on the day of the meeting.
The more comments received, either in person or electronically, demonstrates the desire of the community in keeping the Rohr Park Horse Arena in place and being enjoyed by all.
