Thank goodness for Voice of San Diego reporter Jim Hinch! He sat through the five-hour Chula Vista Council Meeting this week and sorted out all the important items that we would be curious about.
In his latest South County Report, reporter Jim Hinch shares some good news for all waiting the outcome of the Rohr Park Master Plan:
ICYMI: The Chula Vista City Council also had a surprise for watchers of the ongoing redevelopment saga at Rohr Park. After parks officials initially said plans for upgrading the regional park did not require extensive environmental review, Councilmembers on Tuesday voted to authorize spending up to $450,000 for a consultant to conduct an environmental analysis of the proposed park plan. (The new spending also includes additional planning work at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center.) The environmental review will take a while, giving everyone plenty of time to continue arguing about the future of Rohr Park.—Jim Hinch, Voice of San Diego

The Council hammered out a strategic plan that includes four main goals:
Upgrade city infrastructure.
Improve public safety and residents’ quality of life (parks, libraries, etc.).
Grow the economy and provide more jobs.
Make government work better.

Among their many initiatives, one close to the heart of the community of Bonita stands out. It is their initiative to "pursue the removal of tolls on State Route 125."
That alone could get Bonita-Sunnyside cut-through, toll-avoidance roadways set back twenty years to a time when residents could actually walk on their streets and enjoy the peace and quiet of their rural town.

Let me clarify...
The City Manager packaged consultant services for three locations into one April 14, 2026 City Council agenda item- Item 8.3. The agenda itself only referenced a report number and a single location:
Report Number: 26-0074
Location: 2800 Olympic Parkway
However, the words "Rohr Park" were embedded in the Recommended Action making the reference easy to miss. Attachments had the details.
The cost of additional consultant services for Rohr Park and Chula Vista Golf Course specifically were estimated to be $250,000.
Although the City is not talking about it, Chula Vista already has a Sweetwater Valley/ Rohr Park Master Plan. That existing master plan was approved on June 17, 1986, Resolution 12538. Most of the park is already…
$450,000 to study Rohr Park?
