It's amazing to me what some people will do to win an election.

The race for San Diego County Supervisor, District 1, is on it's final leg and ticking down the seconds.

But didn't we just have an election in late 2024?

Ah yes, we did . . . you might remember the Tragedy of Nora Vargas. Ms. Vargas was the District 1 Supervisor who ran for her second term and won, only to refuse to take her oath and be sworn in.

There was no rhyme, no reason. Just poof!

As mysterious as the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, who flew off in her plane and vanished.

"The disappearance of Amelia Earhart in 1937 is widely considered one of the most mysterious in history. Her attempt to circumnavigate the globe during a flight between Papa New Guinea and Howland Island led to her disappearance, with no wreckage or survivors ever found. Countless theories, ranging from crash landing to capture by foreign powers, have emerged to explain her vanishing."

There are a seemingly endless number of explanations about what happened to these two women. The difference being Ms. Earhart is generally remembered in a positive light and Ms. Vargas is . . . well, not so much.

But I digress.

So the race is hot and heavy for the position of District 1 Supervisor. Two seated Mayors are running for the position: Mayor Paloma Aguirre of Imperial Beach and Mayor John McCann of Chula Vista.

Whoever wins this election will be the deciding vote on future Board of Supervisor votes. The current Board is trapped in limbo with two Democratic Supervisors and two Republican Supervisors. They are constantly in a state of uncertainty—stuck in an abyss of stagnation—with neither side able to achieve the victory they so desire. "Progress is stalled" is an understatement.

Who will win? Who will win?

And then this item rears its ugly little head in the news this week.

"The Mayor of Imperial Beach made a false claim against the Mayor of Chula Vista as the two city leaders face off in a special election to fill a vacancy on the County Board of Supervisors. Paloma Aguirre posted on social post this week that  John McCann was “at the center” of a school district political corruption scandal that saw 18 people indicted in 2012, including six school board members, but McCann was the only sitting Board member not charged with any crimes in the investigation that included three school districts." — Arturo Castañares, Editor-at-Large, La Presna

It's a fascinating story. Ms. Aguirre was trying to knock Mr. McCann out of the race with a false accusation on social media . . . only to be swatted down by a member of her own party, a current Sweetwater school board member.

I'm not going to spoil the ending for you. It's too good to miss.
