You’re Invited to Review the Draft ADU Zoning Ordinance Amendment

The County of San Diego Planning & Development Services (PDS) is pleased to announce that the draft ordinance for the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Zoning Ordinance Amendment and the proposed Separate Sale of ADUs Program are available for public review. PDS, in collaboration with community input, is in the process of refining the ADU Zoning Ordinance to provide additional homeownership opportunities in San Diego County.
The draft document can be viewed on the County’s ADU Zoning Ordinance Amendment website.
The draft ADU Zoning Ordinance includes updates to ensure compliance with recent mandatory State law changes. Per direction from the Board of Supervisors on October 9, 2024, the draft ordinance also includes a new section for a potential local program under Assembly Bill (AB) 1033, a State law passed in 2023 that allows cities and counties to voluntarily adopt an ordinance allowing the independent sale of ADUs separate from the primary residential unit.
We invite you to share your thoughts on the potential separate sale of ADUs. We are seeking public feedback on the local criteria options that may be incorporated into this proposed program.
Your input is essential as we explore policy options for a local program to bring forward for the Board’s consideration. Please help us spread the word - share this message with your friends and colleagues!
