Things in the County Sure Have Changed in Five Years

In the past five years, there's been an increase in employees, budget and staff in the running of San Diego County operations.

FIVE YEARS AGO

NOW

Employees

18,000

20,500

Budget

$6 Billion

$9.15 Billion

Staff

7

16-18

Employees have increased by 2500. That seems like a lot of people to find work for and keep busy. Maybe that's why the County is always looking for money to finish a project.

The budget has increased 40.77% over a 5-year period, nearly half again! Who's running the shop? I know it's much easier to spend OPM (Other People's Money) but this is ridiculous and impossible to keep up with.

Staffs have doubled, nearly tripled. Are all those people really working or just sitting around twiddling their thumbs?

There's not enough space for all that staff so most work out of their homes. How much work do you think gets done at home? It's probably why no one ever answers the phone anymore.

Monica Montgomery Steppe (District 4 and Vice-Chair), Terra Lawson-Remer (District 3 and Chair) and Paloma Aguirre (District 1 and Chair Pro Tem)

Supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer, Paloma Aguirre and Monica Montgomery Steppe are trying to work a $1,000 bonus for all employees into next year's budget. Supervisors Jim Desmond and Joel Anderson do not support the bonus. I wonder what those 20,500 employees achieved to deserve that bonus?
