Sweetwater Authority will be having their regular Board Meeting tomorrow—June 10th— at 5PM at the location shown in the photo above.

Don't turn up your nose at attending this meeting. Many of you are using Sweetwater Authority as your water provider. As such, this Board makes decisions such as rate hikes and other actions that will affect you and your pocketbook. It's always a good idea to be aware of what is happening in your community.

But wait! You don't have to drive to Chula Vista to watch, you can relax in your big ol' recliner at home and take in the proceedings. Here's how:

The Zoom Webinar link and telephone number will be active approximately 15 minutes prior to the meeting start time.

So what will the Board be discussing of interest? Here's a copy of the agenda for June 10, 2026:

All those items in blue type are active links so you can read more information. The paperclip on the right indicates that there is paperwork attached. The interactive agenda may be found here.

Item 3 allows you to speak about any topic you wish as long as it's not somewhere on the agenda. Some ideas for discussion include:

Have you lowered the current amount of PFAS in our drinking water?

When have you scheduled to fix the Sweetwater Dam so we don't have another 1916 flood?

Action item 5 is a Public Hearing on the Urban Water Management Plan and the Water Shortage Contingency Plan. Listen up and know if something is coming down the pike. This is a great time to speak up about any concerns you have. It is on the agenda to be adopted.

Item 8.4 is about awarding a contract for preliminary design and design services for partial repair of the Perdue Clearwell. This caught my attention because even though they sent out a letter requesting proposals, they only had one returned. That always seems fishy (pardon the pun) to me because you don't have three proposals (the norm) to compare bids. A one- bid contract can charge whatever they want because there are no competing bids. It is on the Consent Calendar meaning any items listed there (and not pulled for discussion) will automatically be voted in using a one "fell swoop" motion.

My favorite part of these meetings is the "Reports by Directors on Events Attended." These events can be anything and many of the directors will report. I like that it gets the directors out in the community and involved so people can get to know them better. Novel idea, eh?
