Supervisor Paloma Aguirre Writes State of Bonita Recap and an SR-125 Update
Dear Bonita-Sunnyside Neighbors,
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the State of Bonita, hosted by the Sweetwater Valley Civic Association in partnership with the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center.
Year 1 was focused on listening and understanding your priorities; in Year 2, we look forward to continuing to deliver results for you.
Here is a recap of key updates from our discussion:
E-Bike Safety: In response to community feedback, we are drafting an e-bike safety ordinance and will host a dedicated public forum this fall.
Road & Pedestrian Safety: County Public Works has installed new stop signs, warning markers, and red curbing. Please continue reporting any additional road maintenance needs via the County's Tell Us Now! app.
Vacated Animal Shelter Site: We will hold a community forum early next year to discuss future uses for the property.
San Miguel Drainage Project: Design funding is secured for a new drainage system, and we will continue advocating for full construction funding.
Neighborhood Traffic Patrols: In April, we passed a Board action to coordinate and dispatch additional California Highway Patrol Officers for this region. There are now two dedicated officers servicing Bonita and Lincoln Acres, focusing on high-priority traffic areas such as school zones. You can request neighborhood traffic enforcement by contacting 645-cops@chp.ca.gov.
SR-125 Toll Road: Following up on a question asked by Bonita residents, I shared about SR-125 concerns at the last September 4 SANDAG meeting (clip below).
Tomorrow, SANDAG is considering a refinancing plan for SR-125 to eliminate debt sooner and reduce pass-through traffic on Bonita streets. Review Item #4 on the SANDAG agenda to watch or submit public comments: Board of Directors - September 11, 2026.
