The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the Eastlake area of Chula Vista. The flight restriction is in place for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) from Friday, August 8, 2025 to Monday, February 9, 2026.
Unmanned Aircraft is a sophisticated way to say "drone".
"Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs): These are often set up for events, such as when the President is flying into a city, or during large public gatherings and disaster areas. For civilian drones or planes, violating a TFR or a prohibited area can lead to penalties like fines, legal charges, or even arrest. "—FAA
The boundaries of the restriction are roughly Telegraph Canyon Road/Otay Lakes Road on the North, Otay Mountain on the East, Birch Road on the South and Heritage Road on the West.
Included within the perimeter are John Nichols Field, Lower Otay Reservoir, Otay Ranch, Otay Mountain Wilderness, Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center, Otay Ranch Town Center, Otay Ranch High School, Mater Dei Catholic High School, Eastlake County Club and a sizable expanse of residential Eastlake.
