SDC Sheriff's Office Issues Info and Rules on All Three Classes of Electric Bicycles & Scooters

The following information was provided at the Public Safety Forum on June 3, 2026.

The sixth handout was from the City of Chula Vista and how their Ordinance reads.

E-Motorcycles are allowed on APPROVED motorized trails and are not street legal. Note that all Bonita-Sunnyside trails are for the exclusive use of walkers, runners, pedal bicyclists and equestrians. NO motorized vehicles are allowed.

Operation of E-Motorcycles on a roadway requires a valid motorcycle license, DMV registration and insurance. I believe that many of our "e-bike" users are actually riding e-motorcycles and are in violation of the law.

These would be excellent handouts to provide at the E-bike Safety Workshop that is taking place tomorrow, June 6th.
