Rohr Park Horse Arena Returns to Its Former Glory

Bonita Valley Horsemen revved the revival of Rohr Park Horse Arena this past weekend. On Saturday, BVH President Janeen Reed booked the first event for a very long time and it was a roaring success.

When I arrived, I had to search for an empty parking place and finally found the last one. I counted 31 cars and trucks and several horse trailers in the trailer area. It was like old times and it was wonderful!

Top notch trainer Melissa Shonholtz instructed six participants in ranch riding skills while the audience watched and learned.

The horses and riders worked hard on their lessons and learned some new training tips.

I was talking to a woman from Chula Vista who had come to watch with her two children. She was looking for a place for her daughter to get training with a horse and her son was looking for one to pet. BVH member Dennis Avalos was the answer for both requests, horses to pet and his daughter Erika is a trainer!

The luncheon was a hit with plenty of good food. Cindy Haltermann, Barbara Amalfitano and Mary Powell did an outstanding job as food hostesses. Cindy's hotdogs, Mary's salad and Janeen's baked beans and oatmeal raisin cookies were the best!

It was a wonderful event and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves!
