City Council votes in favor of significant limits on the Bonus ADU Program

June 16, 2025 — In another marathon City Council meeting, council members voted 5 to 4 to support a motion by Councilmember Henry Foster to cap the Bonus ADU program. It's not the "4 is Fair Everywhere" that we had hoped for, but it will greatly reduce the damage that has been done to neighborhoods by predatory investors under this program.
We will provide a complete list of all amendments in a follow-up email.
We can't thank ALL of you enough for supporting us in this journey. As stated by one of the council members, it's because of all of you that this came before the Council again.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Neighbors For A Better San Diego has done an excellent job on getting the number of ADUs built on a property limited to the lot size square footage. Hopefully this will help set a precedent for those living in surrounding cities and unincorporated areas.
