New Ownership at the Chula Vista Golf Course?!

Tacked up near the entrance to the Chula Vista Golf Course club house at 4475 Bonita Road is a California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control “PUBLIC NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR OWNERSHIP CHANGE.” The date on that notice is August 21, 2025. This notice tells a passerby that a new entity will hold the liquor license for this facility.
According to the County tax assessor’s office, the City of Chula Vista still owns that golf course land (APN 593-240-24.) Yet, on March 26, 2025, Touchstone Golf LLC, the City’s golf course management company since 2016, merged with a larger golf company. According to the National Golf Foundation, KemperSports, a privately held company, is one of the most prolific companies in course management. KemperSports’ website says:
“a leader in the hospitality and property management space.”
“We own, lease, operate and develop facilities.”
Touchstone’s specialty niche is management and advisory services for financially distressed or underperforming golf courses. Touchstone Golf now operates as a division of KemperSports.
Sixty-five years ago, the Chula Vista Golf Course was constructed as a private club. After a successful bond measure, the City purchased the Sweetwater Valley Country Club in 1965.
As for the future of the club house, a City spokesperson said that an upgrade is coming. Only time will tell if this upgrade, presumably with private investment, will be “lipstick on a pig” or a new facility.
This club house upgrade could be part of a bigger picture for Bonita revitalization.
