Multiple Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash on I-805 in Chula Vista

Several people were taken to hospitals Wednesday night following a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista that temporarily shut down freeway lanes during the evening commute.

The collision was reported around 10:04 p.m. on March 11, 2026, on southbound I-805 near Main Street, according to authorities.

Officials say the crash involved four vehicles and appears to have started when traffic slowed due to nearby construction activity.

According to one of the drivers involved, vehicles were braking because of construction traffic when another car approached at a high rate of speed and rear-ended one of the vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving multiple cars.

Emergency crews from the Chula Vista Police Department, Chula Vista Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

Authorities say at least three occupants were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

During the investigation, all southbound lanes were shut down near Olympic Parkway for roughly an hour while crews cleared the damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and is working to determine whether drugs or alcohol may have been a factor.

Officials are also reminding drivers to slow down and remain alert when traveling through construction zones.
