The accident took place on the 4200 block of Bonita Road near Allen School Road.
Visael Lopez Hernandez, a maintenance worker, was cleaning up the landscape on the side of the road when the car came off the rails and took his life.
News reports from various stations list him as 46 or 47 years of age. Either age is much too young to die.

Chula Vista Police officials said an aqua-green Toyota Prius was heading eastbound in the 4200 block of Bonita Road, near Allen School Road, just before 1:30 p.m. when “the driver failed to negotiate a turn, crossed into oncoming traffic, hit a parked vehicle, drove onto a sidewalk and struck a maintenance worker.”

Chula Vista resident Alexander Heydari, the 28-year old driver of the Prius, was evaluated at the scene and then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter while impaired. He was not injured in the collision.
CVPD’s Traffic Bureau is investigating the collision; anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact the agency at 619-476-2428.
