A man was brutally killed in an apparent hatchet attack on a Bay Ho street Monday afternoon, leading San Diego Police to surround a nearby travel trailer where the suspected attacker was believed to be hiding.

Officers say 39-year-old Larry Raymond Rodriguez eventually emerged and was arrested without incident, while a young girl believed to be his daughter was found inside and taken into protective custody.

Police were called to the area of Santa Fe Street and Damon Street around 4:50pm after receiving multiple reports of a man being attacked with a hatchet. Officers found the victim, described only as a white man approximately 50 years old, lying in the street with multiple lacerations to his head. He died from his injuries.

Investigators say Rodriguez will be booked into San Diego County jail on suspicion of murder. Police have not identified the victim or revealed what may have led to the deadly confrontation, and the relationship between the two men remains unknown.

The circumstances surrounding the young girl found inside the trailer are also under investigation. SDPD said she is believed to be Rodriguez’s daughter, although investigators were still working to confirm their relationship.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact the San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit at 619-531-2315 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
