A video sent to us last week shows a dangerous stunt on a Southern California freeway. The clip captures a man hopping out of the driver’s side of a moving pickup truck and spreading his arms as if he were “flying” alongside traffic.

It remains unclear if another person was behind the wheel or if the truck was left steering on its own during the incident. Either way, the risky maneuver put not only the man’s life at risk but also endangered countless other drivers sharing the road.

"A man was recorded dangerously exiting his truck on the SR-54 and I-5 merge last week."

Dangers of This Behavior

• Loss of Control: Vehicles traveling at freeway speeds can drift in seconds without steering, leading to catastrophic crashes.

• Risk of Serious Injury or Death: Jumping or leaning out of a moving vehicle exposes the person to being run over or thrown onto the roadway.

• Endangering Others: Stunts like this can cause sudden swerving, chain-reaction collisions, and harm to innocent drivers nearby.

• Legal Consequences: Such acts may result in citations or criminal charges for reckless driving and endangering public safety.

Law enforcement officials routinely warn against attempting dangerous stunts on roadways.

Even short moments of distraction or loss of control at freeway speeds can have deadly consequences.

Authorities encourage the public to drive responsibly and report unsafe behavior when it’s witnessed on California’s highways.

The world is full of daredevils.

A few years ago I was driving on the Coronado Bridge behind a motorcycle. When the cyclist got to the crest of the bridge, he did a handstand on his handlebars! I guess it was a common feat because many Islanders told me that they had witnessed him doing the same.
