James Russell Haltermann



Son of G. Russell Haltermann and Faith Poor Haltermann, Jim was born in the Long Island community of Bay Shore, New York. Upon moving to San Diego in 1945, the family settled in Bonita. A 1954 graduate of Chula Vista High, Jim studied at San Diego State College (now SDSU). He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in 1960 and Master's Degree in 1970. Jim was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa, an honorary education fraternity. He served in the Coast Guard Reserves for eight years and taught industrial arts in the Sweetwater Union High School District for 35 years.

Jim is survived by Connie, his wife of 65 years, four children: Kathy (Jay Haase), Karen (Kevin Kellington), Kimberly, and Kirk, eleven grandchildren and spouses, and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David (Deborah) Haltermann, and sister, Cynthia Haltermann. Jim was kind, generous, and deeply loved by all who knew him.


He touched countless lives with his presence and is missed beyond measure. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. Prayers and kind thoughts will be appreciated.
