Horses Still a Welcome Sight in Bonita

What a pleasant surprise when I pulled in the 7-Eleven today to fill up my gas tank. There, attached to the metal fence, were another type of transportation . . . horses!

My immediate reaction was that it was like being transported back to the Old West, with horses tied up to hitching posts along the dusty main street while riders were inside the General Store or Saloon.

It is said that Bonita, California was once the horse capital . . . with more horses than humans. I wasn't here then but I was living in Scottsdale, Arizona . . . another horse community.

Once a year in February or March, we got out of school at noon on Friday so we could all attend the Parada del Sol rodeo. The next morning, you would see everyone you knew at the Prada del Sol Parade. Those were the good ole days.

Being a horse lover and horse owner, I love seeing riders on the trail. And seeing four horses tied up to a "hitching post" was a blast to the past.

I walked over and talked to the cowboys (and one cowgirl). And just like it always has been, we had much in common.
