Happy Veterans Day!

November 11 was chosen for Veterans Day because it marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, a moment of historic significance. The fighting stopped at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Imagine that!

In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a law changing the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day to commemorate all American veterans who served in any war.

To all those who served—Thank you for your service to this country. Your bravery, sacrifice, and strength do not go unnoticed, and we will always be indebted to you and your family for all that you have given to the country. We would like to thank you very much for your service! Thank you for your time, bravery, and sacrifice for this country.

Sunnyside Common Sense observes Veterans Day and will return to our normal newspaper reporting tomorrow. Please visit our archives for plenty of reading material!
