E-bike struck crossing against traffic signal in Vista

On Saturday August 29, at about 3:38 pm, a 26-year-old male was riding an e-bike near the intersection of South Melrose Drive and Breeze Hill Road, in Vista.  The rider crossed South Melrose Drive against a red traffic signal and was struck by a northbound vehicle.  The rider suffered significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, the rider of the e-bike succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.  The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative.  Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision.  The Vista Sheriff Station's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.

This tragedy impacts everyone involved.  The Sheriff's Office urges everyone sharing the road to be safe, follow the rules of the road, wear proper safety equipment, and be aware of your surroundings.  If you have questions about traffic safety, please reach out to your local law enforcement agency.  Community safety is everyone's goal.
