VISTA/OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A pursuit involving an electric dirt bike turned dangerous Tuesday afternoon after a suspect allegedly rammed a sheriff’s motor deputy, knocking the deputy off their motorcycle.

The incident began around 3:15 p.m. on April 28 in Vista, when a San Diego County Sheriff’s motor deputy attempted to stop 19-year-old Hunter Bellish, who was riding an unregistered Arctic Leopard electric dirt bike.

According to authorities, Bellish refused to pull over and fled northbound on North Melrose Drive, running multiple red lights and reaching speeds of more than 50 mph while using the bicycle lane to bypass traffic.

The pursuit continued into Oceanside, where officials say Bellish slowed on Crestview Drive before suddenly making a U-turn and accelerating directly toward the pursuing deputy. The suspect struck the deputy’s motorcycle, knocking it over, before continuing to flee as the deputy recovered.

A Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter responded and quickly located Bellish a short distance away near Panorama Ridge. Deputies were guided to the area, where Bellish was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities confirmed that neither the deputy nor Bellish were injured.

Bellish was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on multiple felony charges, including felony evading and reckless driving. His electric motorcycle was impounded.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that electric motorcycles must meet all requirements for street-legal operation, including registration, licensing, and insurance.

Sixty5Media caught the arrest on video.
