Coronado Ferry . . . Before the Bridge

Coronado Ferry had been serving passengers and vehicles across San Diego Bay for over 80 years.

Before the Coronado Bridge opened in 1969, this was the only way to get cars from downtown San Diego to Coronado Island.

The ferry ride offered a scenic and unhurried passage, with views of the bay, skyline, and naval vessels dotting the water.

The approach to Coronado was lined with quaint shops and palm trees, giving travelers an immediate sense of relaxation.

This was a slower time, when the journey was just as special as the destination.
