Bonita to Get the Taj Mahal of Self-Storage Facilities. This is a Must Read

ree

Dear SCS readers, I had no intention of misleading you but I fear I have. I thought this photo of the Self-Storage Facility just 1.7 miles down Quarry Road in Spring Valley represented what ALL Self-Storage Facilities look like. Boy, was I ever wrong!

I asked at the Sweetwater Community Planning Group meeting to see a copy of the "Secure Space Self-Storage Bonita" plans. No, no plans provided. I thought for sure that these board members would be given something to look at. In incorporated towns, all projects are stored in a section of the library and you can go look at them. San Diego County is not so transparent.

With a little bit of sleuthing, I found said plans . . . all 31 pages. I was shocked to see what they are planning to build. I am not allowed to reprint the renderings and schematics but I can tell you some things I noticed on them.

  • The storage building is three stories.

  • The basement is 17' high and viewable in places

  • The first floor is 18' high

  • The second floor is 21' high

  • All three levels together total 132,425SF

  • The building footprint is 44,129SF

  • There are approximately 70 RV Storage parking spaces along the perimeter: 30 facing Quarry Road, 24 facing the golf course, and 15+ at the east end

  • The RV lots have a metal canopy or possibly solar displays, it is unclear if there will be reflection to the surrounding areas

  • The building area has been moved closer to Sweetwater Road

  • Quarry Road looks like it has been moved closer to the neighbors across the street in some places but it's difficult to be sure by the plans

  • The building has a 10' easement from the rental homes located on the Sunnyside Stables property

  • The renderings show what the trees will look like in ten years

  • There are 34 cameras

  • The illuminance is measured on a scale

  • The lights are on all night for security and resemble an airport runway amid the darkened neighborhood

  • The lights are of a tennis court nature, facing downward, but the illumination will still be visible

  • The walking trail is between the structure wall and the property line, not much of a view and you would have difficulty getting a horse to walk on it.

  • The structure is visible from Quarry Road, Sweetwater Road, SR54, SR125, the Bonita Golf Course and the surrounding neighborhoods.

It is my belief that with this monstrosity looming in the community, the neighbors will sell. It is just a matter of time before the entire area is heavily developed. Need more information? Check it out for yourself.

The time to speak up is NOW. Before it is TOO LATE.
