In Germany, airports have become unlikely sanctuaries for dogs during New Year’s Eve.
Cologne Bonn Airport opened its terminal as a quiet retreat for pets frightened by fireworks. The thick concrete walls and layers of glass blocked out the noise, creating a calm environment where owners and their dogs could spend the night without the stress of explosions outside.
Airports across Germany are popular destinations for dog owners during New Year’s Eve because fireworks are banned in airport zones. This makes them much quieter than city centers, offering a safe haven for animals that otherwise would spend the night trembling and distressed.
Some airports even hosted events ahead of the holiday so dogs could get familiar with the surroundings before the celebrations began.
