We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the Land Use & Housing Committee (LU&H) meeting yesterday. Over 164 speaker slips (speakers and time ceders) were turned in ahead of the lengthy meeting!
The Committee supported some of the changes that have been proposed in response to public pressure, including restrictions in fire hazard zones, requiring sidewalks to qualify for the Sustainable Development Area bonuses, limiting the developable area of a parcel, parking requirements, and restricting ADUs to two stories. NFABSD supports most of the proposed changes, in some cases with sensible further amendments to make the code clearer and more effective.
HOWEVER, the Councilmembers on the LU&H Committee did not adopt a clear stance on the most important issue, which is the number(s) of ADUs per lot.
The Planning Department will return to the full City Council with additional revisions in June (date TBD), so we will need to continue to pressure the Council to support more substantial restrictions on the number of ADUs than have been presented so far.
After the meeting minutes are posted with the exact wording of the motion passed by LU&H, we will follow up with next steps.
Stay tuned and THANK YOU AGAIN to all who took time out of your busy day to attend, cede time, speak, and support our efforts.
